2024 Library Hero Award

Congratulations to
Joseph Anderson
who was named our 2024 Library Hero!

NOMINATION:
"I would like to nominate Joseph Anderson as a library hero. Joseph has loved and worked in libraries for years. As assistant director and non-fiction librarian at the Logan Library, he advocates for collection diversity and freedom to read, making sure that his collection has items to fill the needs of all members of the community. He is also a strong advocate for patron privacy. Joseph helps facilitate Friends of the Library and has also helped form partnerships with community entities such as Helicon West. Joseph has been involved in CVLA from the beginning. He currently serves as web master keeping the community informed. He also keeps us on track and makes sure we adhere to the by-laws. Joseph has combined his love of libraries with his inclination as a history buff.  For his MSLS, he wrote a research paper on the history of past and present attempts to form a county-wide library system in Cache County. He also recently gave a presentation for the Cache Valley Historical Society on the history of the Logan Library. All in all, Joseph works to help libraries be the best they can. Isn’t that a library hero?"
(nominated by Lauri Hancey)

The award was presented to Joseph on Tue, Jan 23 at our membership meeting at the USU Merrill-Cazier Library.

Proposed Bylaws Change

The following change to the bylaws has been proposed by the CVLA Executive Committee, and was announced at the March Meeting (March 15 2022).
Article 6: Meetings
CVLA will hold 6 (six) meetings and/or activities well spread throughout each year. The first meeting and/or activity will be held in January. There will be no more than 100 days between meetings and/or activities.
Currently, the bylaws state:
Article 6: Meetings
Beginning January 2013, CVLA will hold meetings and/or activities on alternate months. The first meeting and/or activity of each year will be held in January.
The proposed change allows the Executive Committee more flexibility on which months activities can be held in.

In accordance with our Bylaws, the Executive Committee will post this amendment for consideration on the CVLA website a minimum of 45 days before being voted on in a meeting and/or activity. To pass an amendment requires 2/3 “yes” vote by members present at the meeting and/or activity where the proposed change is on the agenda; members unable to attend that meeting and/or activity may cast a vote in absentia by emailing it to the CVLA Secretary no later than 24 hours prior to that meeting and/or activity.

March Email Meeting

Got Email?
In lieu of a single in person or digital meeting, we thought we'd try something a little different this month and host an email meeting. At the end of the email sent to the membership on March 16 is a short six question survey asking about your ideas for CVLA and how things are going at your libraries. None of the questions are required to submit the form, so if there's a question or two you don't have anything you want to talk about, you can skip it.

The survey will be open for submissions until Sunday March 21, after which we'll aggregate the responses and send those out for everyone to comment on. This will be a great opportunity for us to share our expertise and experiences with each other!

The results will be sent out March 26th, and while anyone is welcome to respond anytime that weekend, the "official meeting" day will be Tuesday March 30. We hope this format is flexible enough that everyone who wants to can participate, and we hope to hear from you soon!

Business Meeting and Kahoot Activity

Come join us for our a general meeting introducing and confirming the 2021 Executive Board, then having a Kahoot competition afterwards (if you don't know what that is, just know, it's fun). Because the meeting will be hosted via Zoom, you are welcome to include anyone in your household.

If you aren't on our email list and would like the Zoom link and passcode, send an email to cachelibraries@gmail.com, and we can get the information to you.

Hope to see you Wednesday!
